I was a family doctor for ten wonderful, rewarding years in the small, farming community of DeMotte, IN. But, in January 2016, I was abruptly forced to retire due to complications from a traumatic brain injury (TBI), an injury I’d sustained in a near-fatal car accident around three years earlier.
Following this sudden and unexpected end to my medical career, I had no idea what I was going to do next. This was the job for which I’d trained and studied for so many years and it was the job I planned on doing for the rest of my life.
But I soon began to feel like I was supposed to simply start telling my story. My hope was that by doing so others might better understand what it’s like to find and live a new normal following some sort of traumatic event. To do this, I first decided to try blogging which then evolved into me writing my first book (findingnormalbook.com) and I’m now trying to do more public speaking.
I would love to come and share my story of “Finding Normal” at your church, group, conference, or event. It’s a miraculous story I strive to tell in a unique and captivating way and in a way that challenges listeners to renew their faith and trust in the one true God regardless of the trials or tragedies they may face.
